Room In The Inn

Mission:
Each year, Christ Church Cathedral participates in the Winter Shelter program for Room In The Inn. The program provides safe shelter, warm meals, and fellowship for our neighbors struggling with homelessness during the coldest months of the year.

Time Commitment:
Varies according to the volunteer’s availability.
Every Thursday from November through March, we host 12 homeless men to share a meal, take part in fellowship and have a warm place to sleep.  Again this year, every other Tuesday, we also invited 12 homeless women to join us at Christ Church Cathedral.

Benefits from volunteering:
For many, volunteering with RITI is a way to live out their faith by serving others, aligning with spiritual teachings about compassion, service, and justice.

What’s included:
There are many ways to volunteer to help in this ministry. First, we need innkeepers, both men and women.  At least two innkeepers stay overnight with our guests, arriving at 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. and staying until about 6:00 a.m. the next morning. The duties include serving/sharing dinner, distributing clothes, doing laundry, serving breakfast, and helping out our guests in general. Innkeepers usually volunteer once a month.

We also need volunteers to help set up, provide the meal for our guests, and serve dinner.  We need an entree for 20 people, as well as sides, salad, desserts, and bread. We also need 12 sack lunches for our guests.  Groups are welcome to sign up to provide the whole meal or individuals can provide a specific item.

We are always in need of WARM clothing for both men and women, including blue jeans, long-sleeve shirts, coats, sweatshirts, hoodies, hats, and gloves. Our storage space is fairly small, so please try to donate WARM clothing. Also, we are always in need of t-shirts and underwear.
If you would like to volunteer you may sign up here.

Urban Bicycle Food Ministry

Mission:
The Urban Bicycle Food Ministry has a three-part mission: to Serve, to Connect, and to Sustain and was created to serve people affected by homelessness and poverty.

Time Commitment:
2 hours on Thursdays.

Benefits from volunteering:
UBFM believes that small concrete acts of kindness are the fundamentals that bring light and love to a community. All it requires is a bicycle, a backpack, and a giving spirit.

What's included?
Teams of individuals prepare burritos/hotdogs and deliver them via bicycle to those experiencing homelessness in downtown Nashville. In addition to food, our friends are offered water, socks, and various seasonal supplies.

Wayfarers Ministry

Mission:
To extend the love and compassion of Christ.

Time Commitment:
Once per month.

Benefits from volunteering:
Helping others can provide a deep sense of meaning and purpose in life. Serving can strengthen your faith and deepen your relationship with God as well as increase your appreciation for the blessings in your own life.

What’s included:
Volunteers respond to the needs of Sunday morning visitors experiencing homelessness by offering information and referrals.

Church In The Yard

Mission:
The Church in the Yard provides Holy Eucharist and a meal to those homeless and needy people in the downtown area.

Time commitment:
Fourth Sunday of the month at Church of the Holy Trinity.

Benefits from volunteering:
It is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to those that suffer in many ways.

What's included?
Serving approximately 100 meals to the hungry and those experiencing homelessness at the Church of the Holy Trinity every first Sunday of the month. The volunteers join their guests for Holy Eucharist before serving lunch. The service begins at 1:00 p.m. and typically lasts until 1:30 p.m. Casseroles are prepared at home and brought to the church. They are heated up along with sides during the service and served just after. The program usually finishes by 2:30 p.m. More volunteers are needed.
