Current Volunteer and Service Opportunities
Creation care committee
The Creation Care Committee at the Cathedral is a vital part of our lives as Christians. In Jesus, God so loved the world—and as followers of Jesus, we are called to love the world that God loves. We call that stewardship of our environment Creation Care.
Creation Care at the Cathedral has long involved education about pressing issues, solidarity with those affected by climate change, and recycling and composting. The Creation Care Committee has been ably led for several years by Ann Olsen; we give thanks for Ann as she steps down from her leadership role. This year we are welcoming two new leaders, Amanda and Elijah Reynolds, and are grateful that they've stepped up! If you’d like to learn more about ways to get involved with the Creation Care Committee, please contact Amanda and Elijah—and be on the lookout for more information soon about recycling and composting at the Cathedral!
Isaac ministry on race and faith
There are multiple ways to get involved with the work of our Isaac Ministry on Race and Faith. This ministry follows on Phases 1 and 2 of the Isaac Project, which culminated in our Service of Repentance in December 2024. We've now moved into a new phase of our ministry, which has four main areas of focus:
Education through classes and pilgrimages
Building relationships through service and social events (with a focus on our Walking Together Partnership with St. Anselm’s Episcopal Church)
Advocacy (including partnership with NOAH); and
Continuing our historical research on the Cathedral’s past
We'd love for you to get involved in any of these areas! Opportunities include volunteering to feed our neighbors with St. Anselm's, participating on the affordable housing or economic development task force with NOAH, and more. We are excited to announce Meghan Gwaltney has stepped in to lead the Isaac Ministry on Race and Faith, with support from the Rev. Canon Anna Russell Friedman. Please contact Meghan for more information or to get involved!
Welcome Committee
Become a Greeter! We invite you to join our Welcome Committee as a Greeter before our main Sunday morning services during the program year. This is a great way to welcome newcomers to our services, meet other parishioners, and give back to the Cathedral! With our new space opening in October, your role is especially important as people navigate our new larger building. You would serve once a month and minimal training is required. Contact Brynn Glaze or Laura Glover for more information.
We give thanks for the leadership of our outgoing Welcome Committee Chair, Virginia Vagt, and are grateful for our new leaders, Brynn Glaze and Laura Glover, who have stepped into this important role!
Cathedral Tour Guides
The Cathedral Tour Guides are looking for new members. Guides are generally on duty one Saturday morning per month for an hour and a half. Training is provided on the history, architecture, windows, and furnishings of our space. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the history of Christ Church Cathedral and be a part of welcoming Nashvillians and visitors alike to our space. If you are interested, please contact Ben Turnage!
Usher Team
Ushering is the Ministry of Hospitality. As we return to three Sunday morning services in the fall, we are looking to add to our roster of ushers. All it requires is someone who knows how to smile, distribute bulletins, count worshippers, and show up on time. Minimal training required. If you'd like to usher for the 7:30 a.m. service, contact Robert Rich; for the 8:45 a.m. service, contact Donald McKenzie; and for the 11:15 a.m. service, contact John Bridges.
