Join us in the spiritual discipline of painting an icon!

The annual Icon Retreat will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, 900 Broadway Mon-Fri, February 24-28, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.  This year we are offering the icon of St. Cecilia, patron saint of music.

The Icon Retreat is a guided process of creating an icon and learning about the spiritual meaning of icons. Painting is done in a meditative atmosphere in a small class. The image is traced on a blank wood board pretreated with gesso.  A progression from darker base colors to lighter tones makes the image gradually appear from the flat surface. Our instructor, iconographer Kara Gillette, accommodates any skill level as she guides us through the process.

All materials are provided (Jo Sonja acrylic paints, board, brushes, 23 carat gold leaf, misc. painting aids, daily lunch and snacks).  Cost for the week: $495.
