Altar Guild Ministry
Mission:
To prepare everything needed in the chancel for the parish’s Sunday and weekday liturgies and special services such as weddings, funerals, and diocesan events.
Time Commitment:
1-4 hours per month.
Benefits from volunteering:
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the liturgical practices and the significance behind various elements of the service. Knowing that your work supports the worship life of the church can bring a deep sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.
What's included?
Setting Up for Services:
The altar guild prepares the altar for worship, which includes arranging items like the chalice, paten, and ciborium (used in communion), as well as placing the appropriate linens, candles, and altar cloths.
Placement of the Elements:
Members prepare the bread and wine for the Eucharist, ensuring they are properly placed on the altar before the service.
Seasonal Decorations:
The altar guild changes altar linens, banners, and other decorations according to the liturgical season (e.g., Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter).
Experienced guild members provide training to new volunteers.
