What can I expect on a Sunday?
As you enter the Cathedral, you’ll be met by greeters standing outside and ushers standing inside, ready to hand you a worship bulletin and help you find a seat, and point you in the direction of the restrooms (down the hallway to the left of the altar). As part of our commitment to welcome all, we offer a single-stall, gender neutral, accessible bathroom with a changing table on the first floor across from the receptionist’s desk.
The bulletin contains an outline of what you need for the service. It includes some prayers and our scripture readings. The bulletin also contains page numbers for hymns in our 1982 Hymnal (blue book) and for readings from our Common Book of Prayer (red book). The bulletin tells you when to stand, sit, or kneel. Feel free to participate as you are comfortable and able.
Communion is open to all baptized Christians (including children). Ushers direct the flow for communion. If you are not ready to receive communion, you may come forward for a blessing by crossing your arms over your chest or remain in your pew. Low gluten wafers are available, just let the server know. Other instructions are in the bulletin.
During communion we offer healing prayers in the Chapel to the right of the altar with church members available to pray with you.
Attire ranges from casual to business attire, jeans to jackets, and sneakers to heels. Come however you feel most comfortable.
Children of all ages sit with their families for worship. Nursing moms are welcome in worship. If desired, privacy may be found in the parish building accessible through the two hallways on either side of the altar. We offer childcare in our nursery and toddler atrium for infants and toddlers, which may be found downstairs. The receptionist at the desk through the door to the left of the altar can direct you.
Children’s bulletins, coloring sheets, crayons, and activities are available in the hallway to the right of the altar and the kids’ nook at the middle of the left side of the nave (the sanctuary). We encourage families to sit up front so their children can see the activity in the chancel (the altar area).
