Life Events

We express God’s love for each other when we celebrate major life and faith milestones together in worship. The liturgies outlined below are sacramental because they offer outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace; grace is God’s favor towards us.

Baptism

Baptism by water and the Holy Spirit is the moment of initiation into the Christian church. We are marked as Christ’s own forever in baptism. At the Cathedral, we baptize persons of all ages, including infants, and see the baptism of children as a gift their parents give them. Once baptized we will have a place where we always belong, no matter what happens in our lives.

If you are interested in baptism at the Cathedral, please fill out this brief form  and you will be contacted shortly.

Confirmation

Confirmation is an opportunity for baptized Christians to make a mature and public commitment to Christ in the Episcopal tradition. Youth are prepared for confirmation through the Youth program; adults are prepared through our yearly Journey in Faith class. These classes meet at 10am from January through the Sunday before Palm Sunday, and the Bishop confirms youth and adults at the Easter Vigil (the Saturday before Easter Sunday).

If you have been confirmed in another tradition, you may take the Journey in Faith class and be received in the Episcopal Church at the Eater Vigil. If you have been confirmed in the Episcopal Church, you may also take the Journey in Faith class and reaffirm your baptismal vows.

If you are interested in Confirmation (or reception or reaffirmation) at the Cathedral, please fill out this brief form and you will be contacted shortly.

Reconciliation

Reconciliation (Confession) offers you an opportunity for private confession to supplement our communal confession in Sunday worship. The rite of reconciliation of a penitent builds on Christ’s reconciling grace and is exercised through absolution declared by one of our priests. Confessions may be heard anytime. Additionally, the Cathedral offers set times in preparation for Easter. If you are interested in the rite of the reconciliation, please contact one of the priests.

Holy Matrimony

Holy Matrimony (Marriage) is when two persons enter into a life-long union before God and the Church and receive God’s grace and blessing to help them fulfill their vows. This special and joyous occasion is available at the Cathedral for active members, immediate family of active members, or those who intend to be active members for at least six months prior to the wedding. Expectations for membership may be found here.

Burial

Burial of the Dead (Funerals) is an Easter liturgy of hope and joy. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we too shall be raised. We offer funerals for our members and suggest that you make plans ahead for your funeral. If you would like information on the Cathedral’s on-site columbarium (for the inurnment of ashes), please contact our volunteer Columbarium Coordinator, John Whitaker. To have a pastoral conversation about pre-arranging a funeral, please contact the Rev. Deacon Mary McCarthy or one of the priests.
