Worship Ministries

Our regular Sunday morning worship and our special liturgies and concerts invite us to use all our senses to know that God is love. From our prayers, our preaching, our music, and our Holy Eucharist, we celebrate God’s love for all of us in forms that are traditional and contemporary. There are lots of ways for you to be involved!

Acolytes

We invite youth from 6th-12th grades to serve at our Sunday services by carrying the cross or torches. Acolytes contribute to our worship in a meaningful way. For more information, please email volunteer Jonathan Sprinkle.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild prepares the altar and the wine and bread for liturgies, including weddings, funerals, and other special services. If you enjoy precise, meaningful, and quiet tasks, we would love for you to join us! For more information, please contact volunteer Sandra Merritt.

Cathedral Choristers

The children and youth in our Choristers program receive weekly vocal training, learn to read music, discover the joy of being leaders in worship, and have fun. This is a very special ministry for our younger parishioners! You can find more information on our Worship page. For more information please contact our Canon for Music Dr. Michael VeltingRegister here to participate in the Chorister program.

Lay Eucharistic Minister

Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM) serve in the important ministry of chalice bearer at our worship services. Offering the chalice to a worshiper at the communion rail is a sacred moment. LEMs are selected by the Dean and Rector, trained by our sacristans, and licensed by our Bishop. If you are interested more about this ministry, please email volunteer Andrew Reducha.

Flower Guild

The Flower Guild beautifies our worship by designing and arranging flowers for Sunday and other liturgies. We can always use a few more green thumbs to assist us! For more information, please email volunteer Elaine Smyth.

Greeters

Our Greeters serve an essential function at the Cathedral to make people feel welcome before they even enter the building for worship! No matter if you are new to the Cathedral or have been around a long time, you can make people feel welcome! Join us! For more information, please email volunteer Virginia Vagt.

Lay Reader

Lay Readers serve an important role in enlivening worship by reading scripture and leading the Prayers of the People. Readers are selected by the Dean and Rector and trained by our volunteer coordinator. If you think you have gift for public speaking, please ask about becoming a lay reader! For more information, please email volunteer Richard Daniel.

Morning Prayer Leader

We offer morning prayer from the Book of Common Prayer five days a week at 8:15 a.m. during the program year and twice a week during the summer. If morning prayer is something you know and love, we’d love for you to try leading it one morning! For more information, please email volunteer Matthew Kenny.

Sacristan

Sacristans prepare the altar for worship each Sunday (and on feast days) and guide the participants in each service in their roles. After someone has served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister for a few years, they may be asked to step into the role of Sacristan. For more information, please email volunteer Andrew Reducha.

Ushers

We invite you and your friends and family to join in ushering at the Cathedral! Ushers help guide worshipers during each service. It’s a wonderful way to serve in worship and make people feel welcome! For more information, please email volunteers Donald McKenzie (8:45 a.m. service) or John Bridges (11:15 a.m. service).

Vergers

Vergers lead our processions and assist our readers during our solemn Eucharists (more “high” church) on our holy days. If you are interested in serving in this role, please email volunteer Andrew Reducha
