Isaac Ministry on Race and Faith

Please view this video from Christ Church Cathedral Dean and Rector, the Very Reverend Serena Sides, as she outlines the latest updates on the Isaac Ministry on Race and Faith.

The Cathedral’s Isaac Ministry on Race and Faith has four facets and we invite your participation in any of these areas.

01

Education

We seek to continue to educate the people of the Cathedral and those of partner churches (if desired) about the impact of racism in the United States and our local community and our Christian responsibility to love our neighbors. We encourage you to participate in our book studies, Sunday morning classes, evening presentations, and pilgrimages and tours. If you’d like to participate in planning educational opportunities, please contact volunteer Monica Urness.
02

Partnerships

We seek to humbly partner with congregations harmed or impacted by acts of racism by Christ Church Cathedral. This includes our partnership with St. Anselm’s Episcopal Church through our three-year Walking Together Covenant, with a focus on shared education, volunteering, fellowship, and worship. We encourage you to show up for our partnership with St. Anselm’s!

  • You can sign up for the Mobile Monthly Meals Ministry (4M) with St. Anselm’s here.
  • We also support Holy Trinity Episcopal Church by volunteering at Church in the Yard once a month.
  • We participate on occasion in worship with Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church.
03

Advocacy

We seek to invest time and resources in an effective organization, which advocates for change on city and county-wide issues that directly affect Black and Brown people. We are members of Nashville Organized for Action and Hope (NOAH) and we seek volunteers to serve on the NOAH task forces to make change in the areas of affordable housing, education, criminal justice, and economic equity! If you’d like to learn more about NOAH, please contact volunteer Susie Ries.

  • We are also in conversation with First Baptist Capitol Hill about advocating for change in Nashville.
04

History

We seek to engage in ongoing research into the history of Christ Church Cathedral and its relationship with the larger Nashville community to build upon the research done as part of the original Isaac Project and to inform the other prongs of the Isaac Ministry on Race and Faith.
