Serve & Engage

We act in love when we serve Christ in all persons by engaging in our community through volunteering and building relationships.

We partner with historically Black churches, advocate for social change in Nashville, care for all God’s creation, and donate 10% of giving to the Cathedral to non-profit groups. Join us as we serve and engage in our community!

Volunteering

There are many ways to volunteer alongside members of the Cathedral in the community. All sign-ups are located at Get Involved. We invite you to consider volunteering with one of these ministries:

Church in the Yard

We’d love for you to volunteer with us at Church in the Yard on the first Sunday of the month at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. This ministry serves over 100 unhoused men and women with worship at 1 p.m. and a hot meal at 1:30 p.m. We could use volunteers to supplement our core team so that this is truly a Cathedral ministry!
Contact Gina Williams for more information.

Monthly Mobile Meals Ministry (4M)

4M is a ministry developed by our partner church, St. Anselm’s Episcopal Church, to meet the food needs of Nashvillians. On the first Saturday of every month, we support St. Anselm’s by helping prepare meals and then driving around town to deliver them to people on the street. We could use your help!

Contact Shelley Cammack for more information.

Room in the Inn

One of our largest efforts is our participation in the Winter Shelter program for Room In The Inn, a local downtown non-profit. This program provides safe shelter, warm meals, and fellowship for our neighbors struggling with homelessness during the coldest months of the year. We offer food and shelter once a week from November through March and need many hands to prepare and serve dinner, prepare breakfast and sack lunches, and stay overnight at the Cathedral as innkeepers.

Contact David Morton with any questions.

Urban Bicycle Food Ministry (UBFM)

UBFM is a great way to provide food to those in need in downtown Nashville. We meet Monday and Thursday nights to deliver food and supplies via bicycle to people affected by homelessness. You can find more information here or just show up at 6:15 p.m. at the Cathedral to ride or walk.

Contact Chris Isbell for more information.

Wayfarers

We invite you to participate in Wayfarers, which is our Sunday morning ministry to our unhoused neighbors at the Cathedral. We offer our guests breakfast, coffee, basic clothing, and a place to rest from 8-9 a.m. on Sunday mornings all year. This is an important ministry of hospitality!

Isaac Ministry on Race and Faith

Four prongs

01

We seek to continue to educate the people of the Cathedral and those of partner churches (if desired) about the impact of racism in the United States and our local community and our Christian responsibility to love our neighbors. We encourage you to participate in our book studies, Sunday morning classes, evening presentations, pilgrimages and tours.

02

We seek to humbly partner with congregations harmed or impacted by acts of racism by Christ Church Cathedral. This includes our partnership with St. Anselm through our three-year Walking Together Covenant, with a focus on shared education, volunteering, fellowship, and worship. We encourage you to show up for our partnership with St. Anselm’s!
  • We also support Holy Trinity Episcopal Church by volunteering at Church in the Yard and we participate on occasion in worship with Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church.

03

We seek to invest time and resources in an effective organization which advocates for change on city and county-wide issues that directly affect Black and Brown people. We are members of Nashville Organized for Action and Hope (NOAH) and we seek volunteers to serve on the NOAH task forces to make change in the areas of affordable housing, education, criminal justice, and economic equity.
  • We are also in conversation with First Baptist Capitol Hill about advocating for change in Nashville.

04

We seek to engage in ongoing research into the history of Christ Church Cathedral and its relationship with the larger Nashville community. We build upon the research done as part of the original Isaac Project to inform the other prongs of the Isaac Ministry on Race and Faith.

Grants Committee

Through our Grants Committee, the Cathedral provides financial support for over 10 not-for-profit organizations in Nashville and Middle Tennessee as they work for the common good. These include: East Nashville Hope Exchange, Habitat for Humanity, Matthew 25, Nashville Cares, Nashville Rescue Mission/Traveler’s Aid, Preston Taylor Ministries, Rooftop Ministries, Room in the Inn, St. Luke’s Community House, The Family Reconciliation Center, The Nashville Food Project
The Grants Committee also supports our own ministries: Wayfarers, Room in the Inn, and Church in the Yard.

We also financially support several global organizations, in Bolivia, Iraq, and Haiti. We have a special relationship with The Amistad Mission in Bolivia. Amistad consists of a children’s village in the city of Cochabamba and a medical clinic, day care, and school in Aramasi, a village in the high Andes mountains. We send a group of youth and often another group of adults to serve at Amistad each year.

Our Grants Committee provides almost $200,000 to support our outreach ministries and domestic and international non-profits.

Creation Care Ministry

We are called to care for all God’s creation and to steward the resources of our world. The Cathedral has an active recycling program and composts our food scraps at large events. We are looking for volunteers to help craft what’s next for Creation Care at the Cathedral!
