Solemn Choral Evensong in Eastertide, the last Evensong sung by the Cathedral Choir for this season, will include the work of three contemporary British composers. The thrilling Truro Cathedral Evening Service (Magnificat and Nunc dimittis) by British composer Philip Stopford, joins the gentle and tuneful Preces and Resonses by Joanna Forbes L’Estrange to form the backbone of the liturgy of Choral Evensong. Both of these works will be included in the Cathedral Choir’s guest appearance next month at St. James’ Cathedral in Chicago, where they will be in residence for the Feast of Pentecost. Evensong will conclude with an ethereal and evocative piece by composer Robert Walker, entitled As the Apple Tree. This work contains a surprising compositional element that you will both hear and see. Plan to join us and experience that in person.
