BACHanalia, our favorite Cathedral Arts event of the season, is almost upon us! On Friday, March 27 from 4:00-10:00 PM, the nave of Christ Church Cathedral will echo for the 18th year with the glorious melodies and harmonies of the father of western classical music, Johann Sebastian Bach.
This is truly a unique event: all Bach, all the time, all volunteer, and all free. We have an amazing slate of artists already lined up to explore the riches of J.S. Bach’s oeuvre. Performers include Music City Baroque with authentic Baroque practice, the Sam Levine jazz combo, the Nashville Sax Quartet, Vanderbilt 16, the Nashville Chamber Music Society, the Parthenon Chamber Orchestra, musicologist Michael Rose, violists Dan Reinker and Carl Larson, NSO cellist Stephen Drake, pianist Nathan Cheung, oboist Peter Kolkay, as well as many other musicians: organists, singers, strings, harpists, and ensembles. Six hours of Bach, in both ways he would recognize and ways that would surprise him—including a new group bringing us “hot jazz” Bach!
This is event is completely free to the public and relies on the support and commitment of donors and volunteers to make it happen. Those interested in being a part of a cherished musical tradition that celebrates the rich musical heritage of J.S. Bach can view available volunteer roles here or email Sheri Sellmeyer with any questions.
As usual, BACHanalia will have not only fabulous music, but light food and merchandise so you can make it a night and take home a souvenir! Ample free parking will be available.
