About Us

Who We Are

Christ Church Cathedral lives God’s love in downtown Nashville through our worship and welcome, curiosity and community, and care of all people.

We are called to be

Christ Church Cathedral is a welcoming and inclusive faith community.

Leaning into the Baptismal Covenant, our community strives for justice and peace among all people, and respects the dignity of every human being. We cherish the diversity of God’s people across all abilities, ages, economic backgrounds, ethnicities, races, genders, and sexualities. In the Episcopal Church, this diversity is represented in our bishops, priests, deacons, and laity. All are beloved and belong here. (Cathedral Welcome Statement, Approved by the Vestry on February 24, 2024)

What we believe

You can find what we believe in our catechism at the back of the Book of Common Prayer. We have a big theological tent and you can ask any of the clergy for more information!

We are a Cathedral Parish in the Diocese of Tennessee

As part of The Episcopal Church, Christ Church Cathedral belongs to a regional body of churches known as a diocese. We are not a standalone congregation, but a parish of the Diocese of Tennessee. We are overseen by our bishop, The Right Reverend John Bauerschmidt, who serves as chief pastor of the diocese.

As a cathedral, we are also the seat of our bishop and the place for diocesan celebrations and worship services. The Episcopal Church is also part of the Anglican Communion, a worldwide gathering of Anglican and Episcopal churches in over 165 countries.

Safe Church, Safe Communities

CHILDREN AND OTHER VULNERABLE MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY

We are committed to keeping all members of our ministries safe from abuse – especially our children and youth, and our older adults or our adults who are differently abled. We are required by our diocese and the national church to protect our vulnerable parishioners so we may live into our baptismal covenant and help them and us grow stronger in our life in Christ.

We require our staff, volunteer ministry leaders, and volunteers working with children and youth and undertaking pastoral visits to undergo Safe Church, Safe Communities training. This training provides participants with information to protect vulnerable individuals in their personal lives and at the Cathedral.

REPORTING CLERGY MISCONDUCT

Sexual misconduct and other abuses of power or position are condemned; neither will be tolerated in the Diocese of Tennessee. Allegations of sexual misconduct will be taken seriously and will be investigated promptly.

The Title IV Canons of the Episcopal Church require every diocese to provide for and publicize methods of reporting instances of possible clergy misconduct. The Diocese of Tennessee has such a procedure in place as outlined here.

Anyone desiring to report possible clergy misconduct should contact the Intake Officer of the Diocese of Tennessee, the Reverend Kristine Blaess.
