Pledge Campaign for 2027

Deeply Rooted, Joyfully Growing

On Sunday, October 25, we begin our Pledge Campaign for 2027, Deeply Rooted, Joyfully Growing. Our theme builds on our new three-year vision and brings to mind Colossians 2:6-7: “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to walk in him, rooted and built up in him…abounding in thanksgiving.” We give thanks for our deep roots in Christ Jesus and the joyful growth of our life in Him.

As we look toward 2027, we invite you to join us in nurturing the deep roots and joyful growth of Christ Church Cathedral. Pledges are essential to our life together. In 2026 they provided $2.05 million of our income, or about 57%. With a projected 5% increase in our budget, our 2027 pledge goal is $2.15 million. This year we also hope to grow the number of households who pledge—from 373 to 400. With over 400 people worshiping with us on Sundays, we believe this is an achievable and meaningful goal.

We invite you to join our pledging community by making a pledge for 2027. Giving financially to Christ Church Cathedral is one way for you to express your gratitude to God, who is the source of all that we are and all that we have. Making a pledge today for your giving in 2027 is also a practical way to help Christ Church Cathedral plan faithfully for the year ahead. If you are unsure what to pledge, please click below for a guide to proportional giving and frequently asked questions about pledging to Christ Church Cathedral.

The 2027 pledge campaign will last just over four weeks and conclude on November 22, when we will gather and bless all our pledges and finalize our budget for 2027. Please make your pledge online before November 22. Thank you for helping Christ Church Cathedral remain deeply rooted and joyfully growing in Christ Jesus together.

What is stewardship?

Stewardship is the grateful management of everything God has entrusted to us—our time, talents, and treasure. We believe all we have belongs to God, and stewardship is how we live out our gratitude. It is a year-round way of life, not only a once-a-year appeal.

What is a pledge?

A pledge is a good-faith estimate of the financial gift you will give the church for the coming year, made each fall on a pledge card. It is a spiritual commitment and a planning tool.

Why is pledging important?

Pledges contribute over half of the parish’s annual budget, and knowing that income in advance lets our vestry (governing council) plan responsibly for worship, staff, outreach, and other ministries. For the giver, pledging is a spiritual discipline; it encourages you to decide prayerfully what place God holds in your finances rather than giving only from what is left over.

How much should I pledge?

This is a personal decision made prayerfully. Many Episcopalians look to the tithe (10%) as a Biblical goal, while others practice proportional giving—choosing a percentage of income and growing it over time. Your pledge card includes examples of proportional giving. The right amount is one given thoughtfully and gratefully.

Where does my money go?

Pledges and plate offerings fund staff salaries and benefits, worship, music, the Isaac Ministry on Race and Faith, Christian formation, fellowship events and receptions, and other programs. Over 10% of your giving also funds our outreach ministries and grants to outreach organizations in Nashville and overseas. Expenses related to our building and grounds and our required Diocesan support are met through an annual endowment draw and income from parking spaces at the Tempo Hotel and our lot.

How do I make and fulfill a pledge?

During our fall pledge campaign, you return a pledge card (by mail, at church, or online) noting your intended annual amount. You can fulfill your pledge through payments in 2027 (or before) by paper checks, automatic bank payments (preferred), online giving through recurring charges to your credit card (set up each year), or stock gifts. Our Director of Finance and Administration, Leslie McGilberry, is always happy to help.

What if my situation changes?

Your pledge is a statement of intention, not an obligation. If you need to increase, decrease, or pause your giving, simply let our Dean and Rector know. Such conversations are confidential and received with grace. Pledge amounts are kept confidential.

I’m new here—do I need to pledge to belong?

You are welcome exactly as you are, and no one is turned away for not pledging. It is an expression of commitment and gratitude, not a ticket for admission. When you are ready, pledging is a meaningful way to say, “This is my church home.”

At its heart, a financial pledge is a grateful response. Because all that we have is God’s and because we are rooted and built up in Christ, we return a portion of our financial resources to God in Christ through the work of Christ Church Cathedral, not out of obligation but with abundant thanksgiving.

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith…abounding in thanksgiving.”  — Colossians 2:6–7

As followers of Jesus…

…we are called to live God’s love, and our mission statement builds on this call:

Christ Church Cathedral lives God’s love in downtown Nashville through our worship and welcome, curiosity and community, and care of all people.

Your support is critical to the Cathedral’s ability to live God’s love. Please give!
