The Cathedral’s 27th Annual Chorister Festival will be held Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 with choristers from around the nation in grades 4 and above. This annual Festival is a vibrant draw for choristers and their directors, both locally and from around the region. We bring the choristers together to celebrate, rehearse, socialize, and to recognize and revel in their shared ministry and leadership in worship across the local and regional area. Children who practice every week and sing in their own parishes are invigorated when they come together with other kids who follow the same discipline in their own home parishes. When the choristers are all assembled for the Festival, the sum of all of these disparate parts is an incredibly powerful and gratifying thing to witness.
This year our guest director is Colin Lynch, Director of Music at Trinity Church in Copley Square, Boston, and music will include compositions by Eleanor Daley, B.E. Boykin, Paul Halley, S.S. Wesley, Bernard Rose, and Joanna Forbes L’Estrange. Choristers will prepare pieces for both the 11:15 AM service on Sunday, March 22 and Solemn Choral Evensong, which happens at 4:00 PM that afternoon. Singing Solemn Choral Evensong gives the choristers a chance to present a liturgy focused on music, readings, and prayers, with the inclusion of incense and in a more formal setting.
