Sacred Space for the City
Our identity as a Cathedral
is to be a community of faith in the center of Nashville that reaches out to embrace the entire city. Our goal is to offer
spiritual, artistic, liturgical and educational opportunities to the greater
community by opening our doors and sharing our facilities, gifts, service and
faith. We believe that the Cathedral
should be a site where all citizens of Nashville and visitors from other places can deepen their faith through
experiencing the glorious beauty of our sanctuary, outstanding offerings of
music, theater and art, traditional and non-traditional liturgies, and
provocative educational presentations.

Chamber Orchestra: Martin Luther King School
Ashley Jarrell, Director
MARTIN
LUTHER KING JR. HIGH SCHOOL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA TO PRESENT AN EVENING OF SUPERB
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC AT CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL
Its mission is to prepare students with proven academic talent for successful
post-secondary study through a highly challenging curriculum that emphasizes
science, mathematics and engineering.
But come Thursday, May 1, 7:00PM, Martin Luther King Jr., (MLK) Academic Magnet High School will spotlight its
talented Chamber Orchestra in concert at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown
Nashville as part of the church’s Sacred Space for the City Arts
Series.
Nashville’s first secondary magnet school for grades 7 through
12, MLK opened August 1986 in the city’s historic
Pearl High School building. The school
consists of 1100 students and 50 full-time faculty members, with teens
accepted to the school based on their academic testing performance.
The MLK band program is recognized as one of the finest
in Tennessee, with 300 students actively involved in one of
seven bands. Martin Luther King Jrs
groups consistently receive superior ratings at concert festivals, and it has
one of the highest number of students selected by audition each year to
participate in all region bands.
The
concert at Christ Church Cathedral will be a perfect opportunity for the
public to hear the best of young musical talent, as this select group
presents an evening of fine instrumental music under the direction of Ashley
Jarrell. Admission is free, and a
cookies and punch reception will follow, coordinated by Carl and Richard
Crittendon.
If you

City Arts Series events coming up at Christ Church Cathedral, please call 255-7719.
