  • Timothy Kimbrough joined the Christ Church Cathedral staff as Dean and Rector on November 1, 2009, having previously served St. David's Episcopal Church, Laurinburg, and the Church of the Holy Family, Chapel Hill, in the Diocese of North Carolina. He is a graduate of Duke University, B.A. (1979), of the Duke University Divinity School, M. Div. (1983), and of the General Theological Seminary, Anglican Studies (1984).

    His interests in liturgy, music, and canon law led him to be a six-time deputy to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church from the Diocese of North Carolina. He has also served the Episcopal Church in other capacities including — member of the General Convention's committees on the Constitution and on Liturgy and Music, member the Joint Committee on the Philippine Covenant (JCPC), and recently as a member of the Executive Council.

    His musical settings of hymns, service music, choral anthems, and children's songs have been published by Abingdon, GBGMusik, and Hinshaw Music, Inc. with several of his psalm antiphon settings appearing in the United Methodist Hymnal.

    The Dean and his wife, Darlene, are proud parents of four, three grown sons (Joshua, Caleb, and Otis) and a daughter, Hannah, who has moved with them to Nashville.  
     

  • Gene B. Manning is the Sub-dean at Christ Church Cathedral where she coordinates pastoral care, and works with youth ministry, young adults programming and global missions. She also participates in liturgical and other ministries of the Cathedral.

    Gene is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, holds a Master of Education degree in human development counseling from Vanderbilt University, a Master of Divinity degree from the Schoolof Theology at the University of the South and a Doctor of Ministry degree in Preaching from Seabury Western Seminary.

    Prior to seminary, Gene worked in the counseling field with children and with adolescents in the alcohol and drug field. After ordination she served at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Donelson, and was later Associate Rector at St. George's Episcopal Church, Nashville. Within the Diocese of Tennessee she oversees the Safeguarding God’s Children training, serves on the Commission on Ministry, the Dandridge Trust Board and the Companion Diocese Committee.

    Gene is married to James Manning and they have three adult children: James, Leslie and Bentley, and Graham, and one grandchild, Mary.

     

  • Joshua Caler’s primary responsibilities are to serve as assistant to the Dean, coordinate young adult ministry, supervise youth ministry staff, coordinate and develop newcomer ministry, and to take a full share in the liturgical, homiletical, servant, and catechetical ministries of the Cathedral.

    Joshua was ordained to the Transitional Diaconate on Saturday, June 4, in the Diocese of Virginia. He was ordained to the priesthood at Christ Church Cathedral on January 7, 2012.

    He graduated from the Duke University Divinity School(M.Div.) in May, 2011. He received B.A. in History from Grove City College. His experience as a lay minister and as a seminarian has included service as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, participant in Search Committees, Stewardship committee, Confirmation Mentor, Youth confirmation catechist, Urban Mission volunteer, Community Garden coordinator, Short-term Missioner to Uganda, and Canterbury Scholars Program participant.

    Mary Caler is a Ph.D. candidate (Sociology) from the Universityof Virginia. She is in the midst of writing her dissertation and looks forward to its completion by the end of this next year. 
     

  • The Rev. Dolores Nicholson has served as Vocational Deacon at Christ Church Cathedral since 2007. She was ordained by the late Right Rev. George L. Reynolds in 1989 after having been awarded the Licentiate in Servant Ministry from the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Kentucky. She received degrees from Hampton University (B.S.-1959), the University of Connecticut (M.A.-1965) and Peabody College of Vanderbilt University (Ed.S.-1969). As a long time educator, she taught music in the public and private schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee and served in administrative positions in nursing at Meharry Medical College and Tennessee State University and as Director of Teacher Education at Fisk University. In 1990, she was selected as a charter faculty member and curriculum designer for TEACH FOR AMERICA.

    Having served as deacon at St. Matthias Parish and St. Anselm Mission (1989-2000; 2002-2007), she was honored in 2010 at the NAAD National Conference in recognition of diaconal ministry in the tradition of St. Stephen (Diocese of Tennessee/Province IV). 
     

  • Michael Velting is Canon for Music at Christ Church Cathedral, where he has been Organist and Choirmaster since 1994. Canon Velting serves as Principal Organist, Director of Cathedral Choirs and and Administrator of the Music Program at the Cathedral. Prior to assuming this position he was Assistant Organist and Choirmaster of Washington National Cathedral and Adjunct Professor of Organ at The American University in Washington, D.C.

    He holds both the Masters and Doctorate in Organ Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester, in the class of David Craighead. From 1982-1986 he lived in Paris, France, where he studied organ with Daniel Roth and won the Prix de Virtuosité  in the class of  Marie-Claire Alain at the Conservatoire National de Région, in Rueil-Malmaison. and where he served as Organist of the American Cathedral of the Holy Trinity from 1984-1986.

    Dr. Velting has performed in Germany, England, Canada, Switzerland and France, as well as throughout the United States. He was instrumental in the design of the Lively-Fulcher organ for Christ Church Cathedral, where he directs the Cathedral Choir, the Parish Choir and the Senior Choristers and administers the Cathedral Music Program. He is a member of both the American Guild of Organists and the Association of Anglican Musicians. He has served on the Executive Board of the Young Organist’s Cooperative and is a former Dean of the Nashville Chapter of the AGO. He has twice served as a judge for AGO organ competitions. He is Chair of the Committee on Performances for the 2012 National Convention of the American Guild of Organists to be held here in Nashville. He was recently awarded an Outstanding Teacher Award by the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts.

  • Jon Johnson

    Associate Organist & Choirmaster

    Jon Johnson currently serves as the Associate Organist/Choirmaster at Christ Church Cathedral, Nashville, Tennessee.  t Christ Church Cathedral Mr. Johnson directs the Junior Choristers, accompanies the Senior Choristers and Cathedral Choir, and assists in all of the musical aspects at the cathedral.  Prior to his post at the Cathedral, Johnson served as the Organist and Choirmaster at Christ Episcopal Church in historic New Bern, North Carolina, and was the Director of Schola Cantorum for the diocese of East Carolina. 

    Mr. Johnson holds the MM in organ performance and the Sacred Music Diploma from the Eastman School of Music, and the MM in choral conducting and the BM in organ performance from East Carolina University. Mr. Johnson studied organ with Janette Fishell and David Higgs, continuo and improvisation with William Porter, and conducting with Daniel Bara and William Weinert. 

    Mr. Johnson has won several organ competitions which include the 1997 American Guild of Organists Region IV competition and the 1998 national Music Teacher’s National Association competition in collegiate organ performance. He has also competed in major international organ competitions which include the National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance sponsored by the American Guild of Organists, and the 2005-06 Chartres International Organ competition, France. As an undergraduate, Mr. Johnson was selected to study at the Oundle International Organ Festival, England, where he had the opportunity to study with many world-class organists. Mr. Johnson has performed concerts across the United States for several AGO chapters, music clubs and foundations, and he has performed at one national convention for the American Guild of Organists. His European debut in organ took him to Canterbury and Southwark Cathedrals, England, and Göteborg, Sweden. He is the Dean 2011-2012 for the Nashville Chapter of the AGO.

     

  • Becky Rochford

    Christian Education Coordinator

    Becky Rochford is responsible for Christian formations programs for children and adults. She also serves as coordinator of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd training, and as liaison to EfM mentors.  

    Becky is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.A. in American Studies and of the University of Pittsburgh with a J.D. Her work as an attorney for the Tennessee Treasurer's office included drafting legislation and other legal responsibilities relating to the administration of the State Pension system for teachers and state employees, the investment of state funds, the Unclaimed Property program, and the Deferred Compensation program. She is trained in all three levels of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program and is a recognized formation leader. She has completed EfM, all Companions in Christ studies and has traveled to Amistad in Bolivia. She is a member of forma (an association of Episcopal educators) and the Province IV Education Steering Committee. 

    Becky and her husband Bill have three children, Sarah, Anne and Bob. 
     

  • Christopher Klopp

    Youth Minister

    Christopher Klopp began his ministry at the Cathedral on August 1, 2011. His primary responsibility is to develop and nurture a program that ministers to and with the teenage and college aged population of the Cathedral. The scope of programming includes (but is not limited to) E.Y.C., Sunday School, Youth confirmation classes, Youth mission trip experiences, Bible studies, prayer groups, and the recruitment and equipping of parents and other volunteers.

    Christopher comes to Christ Church Cathedral with sixteen years of experience in youth ministry, as a church camp counselor, a church camp dean, and as a parish youth coordinator. He has recently completed two years of service as a local pastor in the United Methodist Church.He was confirmed in the Episcopal Church in 2009. He was an English major at Gettysburg Collegeand received his B.A. in Biblical Studies from Messiah College. He also completed his M.Div. at the Duke University Divinity School in 2009. His experience in youth ministry has led him to serve in the following positions: Youth Ministry Intern, Market Square Presbyterian Church, Teaching/Research Assistant at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Youth Ministry Director, Pleasant Green United MethodistChurch, Camp Counselor and Dean, Camp Penn (UMC).

    His wife Keziah and their two pre-school age children, Milo and Thomas, are getting settled in Nashville this summer.  

     

  • Canon Dr. Stanley Hauerwas became Canon Theologian of Christ Church Cathedral on August 7, 2011. He serves the Cathedral by preaching and teaching twice a year and by making himself available to respond and comment from time to time on matters before the church and world as requested by the Dean. The Bishop may also call upon the Canon Theologian as a diocesan resource for teaching, training, and the encouragement of the people and clergy.

    Canon Hauerwas is a resident of Durham, NC, and a member of the faculty at the Duke University Divinity School.
