The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a religious education program grounded in scriptural and liturgical study using tangible, and self-teaching materials. The catechesis is based on the principle that the child desires to draw near to God. This relationship is assisted by the adult, but directed by the Spirit of God within the child. Themes are offered in such a way as to develop the religious potential present in every child: the capacity to love and be loved.

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd has been developed since 1954 under the direction of Dr. Sofia Cavalletti. The program began at the Children’s Centre in Rome, Italy and now extends to many countries throughout the world. The program is used in home, parish and school settings.

The Three to Six Year Old Child

The six to nine year old child is captured by the image of the True Vine.
"I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me, bears fruit in plenty, for cut off from me you can do nothing." John 15:5
